Career Benchmarks

Last year I attended Moonlight and Magnolias, a conference by the Georgia Romance Writers in October. I attended a workshop given by Stephanie Bond. Stephanie is so career focused and her topic was about… your career. She said that she uses the National RWA conference as a bench mark for where she is in her [...]

The 5 Year Plan

Morning All!
I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle some things today. One thing that I’ve been meaning to do is write a 5 Year Goal/Plan. I picked up a book recently about the founder of WalMart and he says having a 5 year plan is important. It’s not like that’s the first time [...]

A Writer’s Letter to Santa

Dear Santa,
I’ve been a good girl this year. I finished my novel, plotted my next book, wrote half a dozen articles, volunteered for my RWA chapter, and helped my fellow writers.
For Christmas this year, I’d really, really like:

a publishing contract
an agent
a copy of Microsoft Office

Sincerely,
Ally
PS. I hope you like the cookies.
PSS. Tell Rudolph I hope [...]

Dear Editor

This topic of discussion needs mentioning I think. In the past I’ve seen articles by editors about how you should never address your cover letter to “Editor.” You should figure out the editor’s name. And heaven forbid if you spell the editor’s name wrong.

I don’t know how your typical day goes, but if it’s similar to mine, more days than not I end up with a few items left on my to do list that roll over to the next day. In my opinion, roll over minutes are much cooler than roll over tasks. That got me [...]

Publishers and blogging…

I stumbled upon a post over at Booksquare today via my trusty Google Reader entitled Why Publishers Should Blog.

Just as authors need to better market themselves and their books, so do publishers. While the audience for a publisher website is diverse – authors, booksellers, journalists, agents, readers, and more – talking about books on your [...]

Esstentials for the writer’s office

A while back I discussed the “space” in which we write. Today we’re going into the essentials every writer should have. Which includes decor, my favorite part!
Here’s an article about the ergonomics of being a writer and how to outfit your office for comfort.
5 easy steps to organize your office.
I don’t know about you, [...]

Around the Web

I’ve discovered a few articles, loops and things that I wanted to mention. But first, a quote.
Life is a Gift
That is why it’s called the Present
On to the writing related stuff. Via a workshop on this loop I came across this interesting article and more importantly, list on character types. Antagonist, confidant, static character… definitely [...]

The Writer’s Office

This week on the CataNetwork Writers Loop we’ve been talking about our space, the place where we write. I tend to roam around the house with my laptop but I do have an office that acts as base camp most of the time.
From time to time I organize it, get it nice and tidy, but [...]
