Hi there challengers!
I said, hi there challengers!
*hears collective echo this time*
Well, we are halfway through our month long challenge. I’m not going to ask how you’re doing. You know how you’re doing. You know if you’re at 100 words or 10,000 words. I’m going to remind you that this is a challenge. And you signed up to meet the challenge. So do what it takes. Get the words written.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a procrastinator (with a captial P) and I’ve used and heard every excuse in the book. Excuses don’t get words written people.
So… turn off the email. Do it now. I’m waiting. Good. Now… turn off the games, and any other distractions. Open your WIP. Now… turn off the web browser and write. When you get 100 words (that’s all I’m asking for) report back here.
How do you get to your 100 words? Try asking ‘why’? “He glared at her…” Why did he glare at her? Ask why. Keep asking and answering. Layer in some senses. What does he see, hear, feel? Layer in some emotions. Add some action. Ask why some more. There you go, your 100 words. Now hop to it. Keep going if you can!

I’m here! Week 2 was full of ups and downs, but I’m still standing with a total word count of over 13k. Week 3 is starting out kind of weird, but I’m hoping to get back into the flow after making a big DUH revelation about my writing. (I’ve posted my shocking discovery regarding the truth about my muse at http://braggingritesunleashed.blogspot.com.)
Meanwhile, I’m still posting my “favorite line” written each day and am getting good feedback on the idea.
I’m at just over 7000 and still hoping to catch up.
:wave Lisa and Emily!
LOL on excuses! Here’s mine:
I would like to say I got 2000 words written this week. They were painful words too – I’m really struggling with this section of the book. Notice I said “would like to say” — I did get the words written. As I mentioned, I write long hand. Yesterday, I brought my notebook with me while I volunteered at our local Food Pantry, and one of the clients took it! I’m guessing they thought, because it was lying on a table, it was free for the taking.
So I had 2K, but now I don’t anymore. I’d like to think it was divine intervention telling me the story had veered off course or something.
On a positive note – Yea! Lisa and Emily
Wow. Half-way? How did that happen? I got a late start on the challenge and I’m not that deep into my manuscript yet, but I’m not unhappy with my progress.
During the time I’ve been waiting to start on my novella, I finished the first draft of a novel! :irule
Sorry… got a little carried away there, but it’s such a great feeling! I’m still working on the novel, polishing it enough to send in to my editor, but I’ve always got something else going on, so the first draft of the novella is coming along. I’m aiming for 20-30 words and I’ve got close to 3,000 written on it, so I’m at about 10%. Hopefully I’ll be able to devote some more time to it this weekend and up that count a bit more. Wish me luck!
:censored well here we are it is now past the halfway mark. I’m at 13,745 and it is my Friday this is actually the 17 th of May but I worked 12 hours on the 15th. I worked 7 pm until 7 am and then went back in at 5 pm on 16 May. I am glad it is my Friday at last. Tired and running low but managed to eek out 2070 words between 1:30 am and 3:00 am this morning. I got started and next thing I knew it was way past time for bed. I was laughing at myself saying I only had my story on day two and with less than half a month to go they better hurry up and get into trouble so they can escape by the end of the month lol. :rotfl
I have 804 words as of Friday, May 16, 2008.
