I’ve got a few words of wisdom for you from the talented Julie Leto. In her article Layering and Texturing (which is great btw and you can read it here.) she mentions a few things she says to post over your monitor. And I totally agree.
1) DON’T GET IT RIGHT, GET IT WRITTEN.
2) YOU CANNOT FIX A BLANK PAGE.
and my personal favorite:
3) GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO WRITE CRAP. Crap can be fixed. (See #2)
So, take her advice. Get something written. Then give yourself a big pat on the back.

- Just Write I was talking with a friend today and she was lamenting the fact that her story wasn’t progressing as quickly as she’d hoped. My suggestion: just sit down and write. I know what you’re thinking. Easier said than done. But that’s not exactly true. You can’t wait for inspiration to...
- Day 9 – Encouragement & Check-In Words make sentences. Sentences make paragraphs. Paragraph make pages. Pages make chapters and chapters make a book.Sounds easy. And some days it’s so easy you can’t stop writing. Other days, your fingers don’t fly across the keyboard, the screen is blank and the cursor is just taunting you. We all...

I love this. Julie is a smart funny lady and these are all right on.
I had a very productive day. I planted vegetables. ahem. I know, I know, but I’m really here to cheer you all on. I’m going to start in on Monday, though.
I think I said that last week. But that was just a week of research and brainstorming. I think this week I’ll really do it.
Hope everyone is having as beautiful a spring day as we are (finally) here in Wisconsin! We deserve it after a winter that nearly killed us all.

Love it!
I had to take a week break to go work in Georgia on a remodel of the Columbus Books-A-Million. Now I am back home & I have been writing this evening. I am a very happy girl, right now. And that advice is very sound.
Linda gave me some good advice, too; to paraphrase, listen to the story your characters are telling you, even if its not what you’d planned. Surprises can be good for your sotry 7 so far i have to agree with her 100%.
BTW…just curious…to the folks running the site, if they see these posts…any reason why I am not listed as one of the challengers? No biggy, just wondering…

I’m at 8,300. It may be slow, but it is progress
We are having a rainy weekend. I’ve been working on the edits for my November book and laboring over the second chapter of my WIP. I haven’t added many words to my tally but I have made progress. Back to work….
We had a bitterly cold, wet weekend in Melbourne. Brrr…

I’ve heard Nora Roberts speak several times and one of the things she always says is “you can’t fix a blank page.” Simple advice, but true!
