Assignment

Day 22

Okay…a little over a week to go, where are you at? Me…I’m way behind. So far behind I barely see the light at the end of the tunnel. But I am still trucking along. I write at lunch. I think about the story constantly, write notes on plot twist and turns. I write at night (when I can) after the rest of my house goes to sleep. I think about my story while cutting grass, doing laundry, washing dishes…well you get the picture.

Yes, I am struggling to make that work count but I am determined to finish. That should be what every person who is a * bit * behind should be saying.

I am determined to finish.

Because it doesn’t matter how you get there, only that you get there.

So everyone repeat after me…

I am determined to finish.

I will finish!

I will finish!

Now go and write. Milk every word. Make the time that you have to write count.

That’s what I’m going to do … I’ll see you at the finish line!

  1. Day 28 – The Home Stretch It doesn’t look like I will finish! Now what? What if I don’t win the challenge? What if I don’t make it to 25K words in a month? Don’t worry this challenge was designed to get you going. Yes it would be nice to finish a novella in a month...
  2. Day 14 – Almost at the Half-Way Point And no I’m not talking about my story. Not by a long shot! I’m still stalled around the 5K mark. And that stalling has nothing to do with the story and everything to do with time. I have a mountain of other things I have to do. And unfortunately these...
  3. Day 7 Week 1 in Review Okay. It’s been one week. How’s your writing going? Are you all fired up? Is your keyboard on fire because your fingers have been moving so fast? :hot If so you’re doing better than me. Often when I start a story it starts out slow. I love the way it...

  1. You will finish! I finished today, but I cheated because it was just revising a proposal I wrote last year. Next week I’m on to a novella but I am quite sure I won’t get that done by the end of May. However . . .

    I WILL FINISH! (or I won’t get paid . . .)

  2. You will finish Leila and Isabel it doesn’t matter if you were revising a proposal or starting a new story, you put the time and effort in, so that’s what counts. Plus it’s a proposal you didn’t have finished at the start of the month.

I reached my 25,000 words today but the story is a long way off being finished. It may not go to 50,000 but it will go close. The advantage I have is that I’m at home, I can work on my writing any time I want too. So I really take my hat off to those of you who are holding down a job as well as doing this, you should all be proud of yourselves and what you have achieved so far.

  3. Awesome, Leila! I’m forever in that position of not having enough hours in a day, but I try to focus on what I CAN accomplish, instead of what I didn’t. Saves me having to toss and turn at turning at night in worry over what still needs to be done.

As for the challenge, I’m about to hit 21k and have spotted the finish line ahead–not just for the 25k challenge, but the end of the story as well. woo hoo!

  6. I’m working on revisions at the moment but no writing for me tonight.
Would you believe I now have a locked joint in my neck as well as the flu? :thumbdown
Ye writing gods are trying to tell me something…maybe take a break? Be kinder to yourself? ;)

But hey, that doesn’t mean I can’t crack the whip for all of you. :)

    Keep writing…almost there…

  8. Nicola, hugs. I’m sorry. It’s amazing how many injuries this profession gives rise to. Finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck, back . . . maybe we should take up alligator wrestling instead.

I hope you feel better soon!

  9. Thanks Isabel.
    Feeling a bit better today.

Alligator wrestling, huh? Sounds like a good plot for a book ;)
