It doesn’t look like I will finish!
Now what?
What if I don’t win the challenge? What if I don’t make it to 25K words in a month?
Don’t worry this challenge was designed to get you going. Yes it would be nice to finish a novella in a month but just in case you didn’t finish the good thing here is you got new words. Hey, I one of the didn’t finishers. I didn’t make it to THE END. But I did write over 10K on a story I know I am going to finish. When I was tired, or overexcited by a new project this challenge kept me grounded. I didn’t get distracted. I kept plugging along.
Now while a lot of others are celebrating the end, I too will be celebrating. But I’m celebrating the beginning. All the new words I got this month. The same thing we should all be celebrating. Whether you won the challenge or not. On May 31st celebrate every single word you achieved this month. I know I will.

- Day 14 – Almost at the Half-Way Point And no I’m not talking about my story. Not by a long shot! I’m still stalled around the 5K mark. And that stalling has nothing to do with the story and everything to do with time. I have a mountain of other things I have to do. And unfortunately these...
- Day 7 Week 1 in Review Okay. It’s been one week. How’s your writing going? Are you all fired up? Is your keyboard on fire because your fingers have been moving so fast? :hot If so you’re doing better than me. Often when I start a story it starts out slow. I love the way it...
- Quick Tip: Adding emotion My best advice for adding emotion….go back through your mss after you finish and take out all instances of feel, felt, think, thought. Instead use other words or actions to convey what the character is going through. ~ Leila Brown ...

I agree, Leila — It’s all about the process and working hard, not the exact word count.
Right on! I’m still having post-challenge withdrawals, since I was blogging daily on two blogs and guesting on a third about it as well as oh yeah, WRITING! And the winner of my contest that suggested the male character I used dropped out of sight…she was supposed to do an interview about the challenge with me on my blog at the end of the month. Can’t seem to reach her. But man, what a fun experience…and it sparked my “favorite line written today” idea that I will carry on to other things!!
I wondered if it was May 30 or May 31. I am at 20,828 and foudn I the “p” word push screaming in my brain. I have never tried anything like this before. Everyone thinks I’m crazy. I love to be challenged. Unfortunately the time is running down the drain. I might have doen better if I had remeind a tad more focused. But hey like you said I have 20,000 plus owrds on a brand new story. I will write unti the last day. My work schedule went crazy this month and I still managed to find writing time. My brain is shutting down for the night it is now 3:48 am CDT and I work the graveyard shift tomorrow and follow it up with a 5pm return to work on Friday. See told you work went crazy.
:write :hug
uhm we need spell check on here for the typos :hmm :rotf :pound :party :bounce :wave
Kathy, typos schmypos, you have done REALLY well. And that’s the most important part!
I’m just starting my novella so I won’t get 25K written by Saturday . . .
Isabel
Wheeee we are up to 21,343 words today. When I feel myself trying to hard or pushing at the story, it fizzles. Does anyone else find that happens or am I just weird? :whistle
:write :write :write :write
If I feel the pull of the words I have to write, if I push for the words they run and hide
:hug :hug :hug :hug :hug :hug :hug :hug :hug
I’ve reached 27,343 words and the story needs another 10k on it to finish it. I’m happy with this month’s total as I was on holiday for 12 days of it!
If anyone fancies another writing challenge, the Antipodean version of NaNoWriMo – SoCNoC – is starting on June 1. Check out http://kiwiwriters.org for more info!
1,351 words left to finish this story. Will have lots of editing to keep me busy for a while here is hoping I can post 25,000 words written by Saturday morning. I have my doubts it will be truly ended but I intend to say I met the challenge. This sotry may end up in several different books lol. I have to run and start getting ready for work. :write on everyone just three no two more days.
:clap Kathy and Linda!
And Leila, you’re so right!
It isn’t about finishing, it’s about getting those new words out…any number of words
