The Call

The Call: Rebecca Goings

Every acceptance is exciting for an author, whether you’re multi-published or a first-timer. However, my most memorable “call” was from Melissa at New Age Dimensions. She actually called me on the phone to accept my Wolverine Chronicles. My other acceptances had been via email and were exciting in their own way, but nothing is more exhilirating than hearing a publisher gushing over your books, pleading with you to sign their contract. Hehehe Melissa was a joy to talk to, and she literally went on and on . . . and on about these books. (Love you, Melissa!!) You’ve got to understand, at this point, I was the only one who had read these books. So I had absolutely NO feedback whatsoever on whether they were actually any good or not. But Melissa put my fears to rest, literally burying them and slapping down a tombstone. :) The only thing missing was a moment of silence. :P I remember holding the phone away from my ear when she mentioned (rather loudly) that the books had the potential to be an award-winning series and a contemporary classic. Now when an author hears this from a publisher, one of two things happens. They either get a big head, or they have self-doubts. I can tell you, since this phone call, I’ve had my fair share of both. But having this series accepted by NAD was the icing on the cake for me. And hearing Melissa’s enthusiasm first-hand was an amazing experience.
